Reston, VA, and Washington, DC, April 6, 2009 - "LATISTA has standardized the way we want to evaluate the house at particular points," said Anthony Procaccini, the construction manager at EYA's Capitol Quarter in an interview about EYA's recent America's Best Builder award from Builder Magazine. "Regardless of a worker's level of experience, we're able to show them what we need them to look for at various points." EYA has used LATISTA Field mobile and web-based software for the past two years to improve consistency and collaboration on its construction and warranty inspections. This has led to greater quality and customer satisfaction and ultimately reduced costs on maintenance. The America's Best Builder award, EYA's second in eight years, is quite an accomplishment for the 16-year-old company, reflecting their dedication to quality construction and housing for residents of the nation's capital and its surrounding counties. Based in Washington, D.C., EYA has earned more than $1 billion in sales over the life of the company and has constructed more than 2,500 homes to earn their distinction. The company has focused on building high-quality condominiums and row-houses to match their neighborhood surroundings architecturally but that still feature modern, open floor-plans and sustainable design that meets LEED requirements. However, despite the features EYA has developed for its buyers, it still saw fit to credit some of their success to LATISTA Technologies, a construction software company based in Reston, Va. EYA uses LATISTA Field software as a mobile inspection tool and to improve communication from project engineers on the job site to subcontractors and the construction office. Inspections occur five times during the construction of each home, and a warranty team conducts three more inspections with homebuyers once the unit is sold. Issue lists are standardized to improve inspection consistency and efficiency on the job site. LATISTA Field is specifically designed to run on handheld tablet computers. Data on the book-sized computers can be synchronized with servers at the beginning of the day and accessed in the field without an Internet or wireless connection. Inspectors can see and mark up building plans and drawings, conduct inspections, and illustrate with photos from digital cameras built into the tablet. When the inspection is complete, the tablet is resynchronized and issues are relayed to subcontractors for correcting. John Fahey, EYA vice president of construction and warranty services, told Builder magazine, "To the extent that we can systematize how we build, [LATISTA Field] takes out the goof factor, so to speak, and really makes [our subcontractors] organized and methodical on building the homes." LATISTA has been a part of EYA's service and satisfaction improvement program. Since 2005, the company has improved its customers' "willingness to refer" rate from 82% to 100% and has reduced construction- and service-related costs by $2,000 per home. "It's just so important that home buyers know we're building the home to the highest level of quality we can achieve," said Fahey. "We are honored that EYA, one of our longtime customers, would credit LATISTA Field with part of their success," said LATISTA Executive Vice President Chris Ramsey. "The America's Best Builder award is a great accomplishment, and earning two in such a short time is phenomenal. Congratulations to EYA and all their hard work."
